Day Four Part 2 - Garden of the Gods

We decided to camp at the Garden of the Gods Campground.  It's located behind the park called Garden of the Gods.  We've stayed here before and it is a nice campground.  My only reservation is the small creek that runs through the campground.  Several years ago we camped here later in the summer.  Turns out it was monsoon season in the southwest.  While we were at the park, a thunderstorm hit and caused a flash flood that ran through the campground.  Many of the big "buses" and RV's were damaged.  The flood ran through the office.  They opened both doors and let the water flow through.  All the tents that had been near the office were gone.  We had parked on a high spot away from the creek so we were safe!

We got a campsite and the guy who helps you to your site said we'd have to back up the hill and into the space.  David says "no problem."  He backed up the hill with the only problem being he couldn't see the guy some of the time.  We got backed into the space and got it level.  Then I realized we were in the second spot from the head of the creek in the campground.  I freaked!  I could picture water running through the back of the trailer.  Again, David says "no problem."  It's not monsoon season yet and there is no rain in the forecast.  It puts my mind at ease....sort of.

We had intended to visit the Olympic Center, but since we both were not feeling well from the altitude, we decided to just visit the park.  There were a lot of people climbing the rock formations, walking pets, running, etc.  There were a lot of people like me.....carrying 2-3 cameras.  I saw several people taking pictures with their iPads!

I'll end this day with photos.   Enjoy!  Tomorrow is Royal Gorge!

There's a better day coming!
